It's just a shame I couldn't be there.

Next best thing. I will feed your comments and questions into the room during Q&A/discussion time.

Does everyone understand what NHS citizen is?

9 June 2015 - 12:47

User Avatar

Houda Davis
So far no one has asked to clarify, but perhaps questions will emerge through the discussions

9 June 2015 - 12:50

User Avatar

Houda Davis
Micheal, we are just about to discuss on our table what we would like to get out of the workshop today. What are you hoping to get from today?

9 June 2015 - 12:48

User Avatar

Micheal Smith
There needed to be an explanation of the NHS citizen model first. Also there is no sound.

9 June 2015 - 12:49

User Avatar

Houda Davis
Olivia Butterworth will be talking about NHS Citizen shortly

9 June 2015 - 13:09

User Avatar

Francesco Palma
The same concerns at a guess will be raised as would have been if NHS England had not carefully selected to-day's attendees.

9 June 2015 - 12:50

User Avatar

Dex Hannon
Seem to have lost sound is that just me?

9 June 2015 - 12:51

User Avatar

Houda Davis
we are in small group discussions at the moment. Sound will be back soon.

9 June 2015 - 12:52

User Avatar

I want there to be a clear understanding of how Healthwatch locally and nationally feeds into the NHS Citizen model. As the first step in the process is to raise an issue through the website.
Also there needs to be some literature for Healthwatch which will dispel some of the fears about duplication between NHS citizen and Healthwatch

9 June 2015 - 12:52

User Avatar

Houda Davis
Thanks Micheal, I will feed this back to the table.

9 June 2015 - 12:53

User Avatar

Dex Hannon
It is a shame that the sound wasn't available at one of the desks as not all Healthwatch Organisations are based in the South.

9 June 2015 - 12:56

User Avatar

Micheal Smith
Thanks Houda. Its a shame there is no sound as it would be interesting to hear what is being discussed.

9 June 2015 - 12:54

User Avatar

Houda Davis
Unfortunately we can only webcast the plenary discussions, not the small table discussions. Sorry about that.

9 June 2015 - 12:55

User Avatar

Houda Davis
People on this table are talking about duplication, finding ways for Healthwatch and NHS Citizen to complement each other...

9 June 2015 - 12:56

User Avatar

Micheal Smith
That's understandable. Given the lack of understanding of the model. NHS citizen offers a greater online reach for any issues captured by Healthwatch. There is a greater scope to understand the national impact of an issue.

9 June 2015 - 12:58

User Avatar

Houda Davis
...how information can be shared between NHS Citizen and Healthwatch in a networked way

9 June 2015 - 12:57

User Avatar

Houda Davis
Now the table is talking about the tech platform required for NHS Citizen and how Healthwatch could feed patient opinions and other information into the system

9 June 2015 - 12:59

User Avatar

Micheal Smith
There needs to be a discussion on how the Healthwatch CRM could link into the NHS Citizen platform.

9 June 2015 - 13:00

User Avatar

Houda Davis
Webcast should be back on any minute

9 June 2015 - 13:00

HWE national website over 2 year has only received 43 comments, similar to NHS Citizen, so maybe Digital technology is not part of the solution to engagement with patient, public and carers.

9 June 2015 - 13:02

User Avatar

This is one of the ways local Healthwatch can link into. I do think there is a big issue around awareness. Its amazing how many local NHS meetings I've attended and been the only one to have heard about NHS citizen.

9 June 2015 - 13:06

Current presentation centre on those that already involved with Healthwatch.

9 June 2015 - 13:12

User Avatar

Houda Davis
Hi Francesco - the purpose of today's workshop is to find common ways of working between Healthwatch and NHS Citizen so most of the people here are from local and national Healthwatch

9 June 2015 - 13:14

User Avatar

Francesco Palma
Olivia mentions personalisation, Since April 2015, Personal Health Budgets have been made available for Mental Health, Question to Healthwatch attendees, Has your Healthwatch raised awareness of this to your population/carers in your area?

9 June 2015 - 13:34

User Avatar

Houda Davis
Does anyone have any questions for Olivia?

9 June 2015 - 13:56

User Avatar

Dex Hannon
Is there not a fear that it will be those who shout loudest and most often and it will miss those who already struggle to have a voice? How are you making sure that all Citizens can be heard?

9 June 2015 - 14:04

User Avatar

Houda Davis
sorry...facilitator says break time! I will try to bring your question into the next session.

9 June 2015 - 14:11

In some situations, which is why I like that people can interact in a variety of different ways, this will give those quieter voices an opportunity to get involved in a way they feel comfortable

9 June 2015 - 14:19

Question for Olivia, NHS Citizen is not required under s13Q to consult as it does not treat patients, GP's CCG'S NHS TRUST's etc are required, what is the added value of NHS Citizen given the JSNA's and Joint Health and Wellbeing strategies are managed locally, thus Healthwatch would have a watching brief, so what added assurances does NHS Citizen add to s13Q

9 June 2015 - 14:04

User Avatar

Houda Davis
I will try to bring your question about value added by NHS Citizen to 13Q into the next session.

9 June 2015 - 14:13

We are taking a short coffee break.

Really good presentation from Olivia. Positive signs.

9 June 2015 - 14:14

I think Giles comments show how Healthwatch and NHS Citizen can work together. Healthwatch is the beginning of the process by capturing the chatter on the grass level and feeding this into the NHS Citizen process.

9 June 2015 - 14:23

Hi Micheal
Is Healthwatch in your area sat around the table on the Health & Wellbeing board and making comments to the CCG in your area about future commissioning intentions to your population?

9 June 2015 - 14:29

User Avatar

Micheal Smith
Hi Francesco. We are on the Health and Wellbeing board, we have been asked to conduct the public engagement for the JSNA. We've also got a non voting seat on the CCG board, as a staff member I sit on the CCG - Engagement and Public Involvement Group, which plans all their engagement. We've also got a seat on the CCG Primary Care Co-commissioning board, which is where the oversight for the newly granted commissioning of GP services through the CCG will take place.

Micheal

That is first class, so what do you see as the added value of NHS Citizen on your patch given the good relationship you (Healthwatch?) have with your CCG and Local Authority. Thanks in advance.

9 June 2015 - 14:40

User Avatar

Micheal Smith
NHS Citizen is a tool for Healthwatch to expand the conversation on any issues captured through engagement. What is the larger implications? Is this something local or more national. NHS Citizen gives a direct path to the NHS England Board which we would be foolish to ignore.

9 June 2015 - 14:43

User Avatar

Houda Davis
Do you have a sense of how this might work practically? What do you think might be needed to make this happen?

9 June 2015 - 14:37

User Avatar

Micheal Smith
Its about having a clear process between either local Healthwatch and NHS citizen or Healthwatch England and NHS Citizen. My suggestion would be locally as them more intelligence will be feed into NHS Citizen. Healthwatch can be a facilitator for public and NHS staff into the initial step on NHS Citizen.

9 June 2015 - 14:40

User Avatar

Houda Davis
We'll be in small group conversation for the next 15 mins

9 June 2015 - 14:31

User Avatar

Micheal Smith
Should we not be discussing how NHS citizen can work with Healthwatch?

9 June 2015 - 14:37

User Avatar

Houda Davis
this is certainly meant to be a two way process.

9 June 2015 - 14:38

User Avatar

Micheal Smith
It might be worth mapping out the path of an issue,cCaptured at a local event by a Healthwatch member and how it can be fed into the NHS Citizen framework. NHS Citizen is a powerful tool for Healthwatch to use, everyone has said how resources are limited but a job shared is a job halved.

9 June 2015 - 14:46

User Avatar

Micheal Smith
How is NHS Citizen going to link into the Complaints process in the NHS? This is an existing process all the public know about but some don't trust it.

9 June 2015 - 15:22

User Avatar

Houda Davis
Any final thoughts on what you have heard?

9 June 2015 - 15:23

NHS citizen can only help by enabling the day to day experiences of individuals navigating the health system to feed towards change in a system in a way that often is lost by collating views or generalising communities. There can be nothing more powerful than a platform that allows thousands of people to comment and interact on problems which have affected them, and this will be greatly aided by the experience of organisations such as Healthwatch who can both feed into, and use the voices of those who might not normally be interacting. And for organisations such as the CCG to see the numbers of people who feel strongly about a certain issue, in a transparent environment that no-one can ignore!

9 June 2015 - 15:25

Has anyone mentioned to NHS Citizen about the Healthwatch Yammer website? This is an existing Healthwatch National Digital platform

If you don't speak the language of the citizens you will be asking the questions that nobody understands. It is important to lose the Jingo.
